The NBA trade deadline is quickly approaching, and the Sixers, who began the year with championship aspirations, are now barreling ever closer to a decision of buying or selling as they sit in the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference.
Philadelphia’s decision will ultimately come down to one of three options: buy, sell, or stand pat. Coming into the season, it was expected that the Sixers would be buyers by the deadline, with KJ Martin and Jared McCain often being speculated as potential trade pieces. Flash forward to the end of January, and the Sixers are 17-27, while Martin and McCain have both proven themselves on the court far above expectations.

As rumors continue to swirl about which direction the team will take, Marc Stein of The Stein Line has reported that teams have checked in on Sixers free agent surprise Guerschon Yabusele, with Philadelphia having even received ‘multiple trade offers’ on the Dancing Bear. Stein had this to say in his latest trade season update:
“League sources say that Philadelphia has already received multiple trade offers from playoff-bound teams for Yabusele, who has been an effective addition to the Sixers’ frontcourt after his strong play in the Olympics for the silver-medal-winning hosts.”
It’s no surprise as not only does Yabusele appear to be a seamless fit for nearly every team with postseason aspirations, but he is quite affordable from a salary perspective, making $2.1 million, the veteran minimum.

Philadelphia has not yet bitten on a deal and may not in the end, as they value Yabusele and, at this point, have not given up yet on the season. According to Stein, the Sixers are quite fond of Yabusele, saying, “The Sixers, I’m told, love Guerschon Yabusele.”
The Sixers have won two straight games but face six very difficult matchups, including the Lakers, Kings, Nuggets, Celtics, Mavericks, and Heat. This next stretch will prove crucial as the organization decides on the direction.
