The Philadelphia Flyers are getting ready to battle the St. Louis Blues this Halloween. The Flyers most recently defeated the Boston Bruins 2-0 this past Tuesday. Meanwhile, St. Louis fell 8-1 to the Ottawa Senators in their most recent contest.
Latest Flyers news
John Tortorella shared that Sam Ersson would be getting the start on the net, and Kolosov would be backing him up. The main problem Philadelphia has right now is a lack of goalie depth, however, in the one game Kolosov played, he looked composed and performed well.
Latest Blues news
For St. Louis, Jordan Binnington gets the start between the pipes. In the Blues’ loss against Ottawa, Binnington had to take over Joel Hofer‘s spot in the net due to the ruthless nature of getting scored on as frequently as he was.
Flyers vs Blues preview
Unlike Philadelphia, the Blues are in the most competitive division of the NHL. However, the Flyers defeated the Minnesota Wild this past Saturday. St. Louis fell 4-1 to the Wild during their home opener a few weeks back, presenting a rough grading scale and highlighting that this is a winnable matchup. With a 5-5-0 record, the Blues are statistically better than Philadelphia on paper and there are plenty of similarities to note – most notably the power play. Both teams seem to have the right framework but struggle to shoot the puck and make sequences of passes instead.
The Flyers’ lineup is staying the same tonight, but the Blues made some changes. Former Flyer and now captain of St. Louis Brayden Schenn will play left wing on the third line. Another notable mention is one of the two offer sheet players, Dylan Holloway, who will center the second line. St. Louis seems to want to add more speed to their top two lines to slow down Matvei Michkov.
The links don’t stop there. Former Blues player Erik Johnson is about to hit 1,000 NHL games. “EJ” was drafted by the Blues in 2006 as the 1st overall pick. Johnson played three seasons with the Blues before his time with Colorado. It’s a full circle with only five more games until this monumental accomplishment. He gets to revisit his former team.
