During the halftime break of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ third and final preseason game of 2024, team owner Jeffrey Lurie announced that the team will honor LeSean McCoy, one of the greatest running backs in franchise history, by inducting him into the team’s Hall of Fame this upcoming season.
According to Lurie, the official ceremony will occur on Nov. 3 as the Eagles face former Birds head coach Doug Pederson and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
A quick look back at LeSean “Shady” McCoy
Playing his first six seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, McCoy quickly became one of the most electric players in the NFL. He accumulated over 1000 yards on the ground in six of his 12 seasons in the league and over 1000 all-purpose yards in eight.
Controversially traded away during the 2015 offseason, during the height of the dark Chip Kelly years, McCoy’s Eagles tenure ended sooner than it should have. Still, he left a lasting mark with many exciting individual memories and some of the best marks the franchise has ever seen, making him one of the greatest running backs the team has ever known.
McCoy is the Eagles’ franchise leader in total rushing yards, second in rushing yards per game, third in rushing touchdowns, and fifth in all-purpose yards.
The Harrisburg, PA native’s time in Philadelphia was undeniably cut far too short, but he remains an all-time great running back for a franchise that has boasted many great players at the position.
