Phillies vs Rangers: Pitching preview
Ranger Suarez (8-0, 1.37 ERA) vs Jon Gray (2-1, 2.08 ERA)
A real clash of pitching Titans takes place this evening. Ranger Suarez has been borderline unstoppable this season, allowing just 11 runs in 59 innings pitched. He’s also only allowed 5+ hits on two occasions this season and only seems to be getting better.
Suarez has only faced the Rangers once in his career, holding batters to a .150 batting average. The Rangers rank 9th in that metric this season and 7th in hits, so if he can find a way to stay hot against them, it could yield huge rewards.
Across from Suarez will be the esteemed Jon Gray. His 2.08 ERA is impressive, but that number drops to a stunning 1.74 when playing away from home. However, in 10 games against the Phillies, he holds an ERA of 4.18. There could be some means for a pullback here against a rampant Phillies offense, especially with Gray giving up 7+ hits in 2 of his last 3 games.

With two dominant pitchers taking the mound tonight, it’s hard to see this being a high-scoring game. Gray will do all he can to keep the Phillies quiet for as long as possible and although a home-win feels likely, I can’t see it being by a grand margin.

Prop bet fun
Sticking on the pitching side of things, I’m going to back Ranger Suarez to allow under 5.5 hits at +110. Suarez has flown under this total in all but two of his starts this season and while the Rangers have a strong offense, they’re only averaging 6 per game in their last 3. That should give some value to Suarez on this prop, who has yet to really put a foot wrong and has comfortably handled every opponent put in front of him.
