Christopher Sanchez takes the mound for the Phillies this evening and will be hoping to bounce back from his worst start of the season so far. After only lasting three innings and allowing five runs (one earned) against the Reds, Sanchez now faces a team ranking 20th in batting average, but one that has put up 27 runs over its last 6 games. They shouldn’t be underestimated, although this is a prime opportunity for Sanchez.
Across from Sanchez will be Griffin Canning, who earned his first win of the season last time out in a 5-inning outing where he allowed 3 runs. However, this is his first start against a non-AL East team, as Shaun Nestor noted in our preview. He’s allowed 5+ runs in 4/5 games this season and the Phillies are red-hot offensively, so this will be an interesting challenge.

The Phillies are seemingly only getting better as time goes on. They rank 6th in total batting average and are batting .300 over their last 3 games. This bodes well for the Fightin’s considering that the Angels are giving up a dismal 5.01 ERA this season. There’s no reason why Philadelphia can’t see this one out comfortably, and I like them -1.5 here.
