The NFL Draft is just over one week away and the Philadelphia Eagles could quite literally do anything with their 22nd overall pick. The offense is stacked and Howie Roseman has plenty of flexibility when it comes to navigating the first round. Vegas does offer some insight into what positions the Birds might be targeting, and the consensus seems to be locking in on two in particular.
NFL Draft Odds: Eagles eyeing up cornerback/offensive line help?
Cornerback | +140 |
Offensive line | +140 |
Defensive line | +200 |
Wide Receiver | +2200 |
Safety | +4000 |
Linebacker | +5000 |
Tght End | +20000 |
The Eagles are currently favored to bolster one of three areas in the first round next weekend. Let’s dive a little deeper to see what’s most likely:

Cornerback
The issue with the cornerback position here is that the Eagles are financially tied to both Darius Slay and James Bradberry. Unless Howie Roseman is prepared to swallow a lot of Dead Cap, both are likely to start in 2024, meaning that it’s going to stunt the growth of a player who’s ready to start out of the gate.
The other caveat is that there are already a lot of young corners on the roster. The one exception here is Terrion Arnold, who at 21-years-old, is already the best corner in the Draft but remains technically raw. The Eagles could move up to snag him, knowing he can wait in the wings to develop for a year with that only enhancing his stock.
The rest of the players in the first round all feel out of place. Outside of Quinyon Mitchell, no other corner feels NFL ready and would likely be a 2nd-3rd round pick in other classes.

Offensive line
Lane Johnson does have a few years left on his deal, but the Eagles would be wise to find a future heir to his Throne if he plans on retiring before then. Johnson has been linked with Oklahoma T Tyler Guyton due to their Sooner ties, and it’s a logical move at 22.
There are several other tackles who make sense in this class such as J.C Latham and Amarius Mims. The Eagles will have plenty of options in what appears to be a loaded class, and we know that the Philly GM is never afraid to load up on OL depth.
Defensive line
A position of intrigue given the change in scheme and the Haason Reddick trade. The Eagles might want to add another EDGE rusher, but there are some really enticing DT options too such as Byron Murphy II. As a value play, this is pretty good.
Safety
This is a wildcard as it pretty much hinges on the Eagles selecting Cooper DeJean. It feels unlikely given that Philadelphia recently added Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to their defensive backfield, and Sydney Brown will be back in the fold once the season begins. However, DeJean is a versatile player who could impact multiple spots and maybe even one day be a starting corner. It ticks multiple needs and would allow the Eagles to flex a young player around a defense going through a big transition.
