Canada best Brazil in PKS

Canada and Brazil faced off in the semifinals and played a very competitive match. Brazil was on the front foot early winning a penalty just 20 minutes in. The chance was finished off by Tarciane to give Brazil the 1-0 lead. As the match lingered on in the second half, Canada pushed to get on level terms.

They were able to do so late on in the 77th minute as Vanessa Gilles scored. Canada looked like the team more likely to get another goal, but the match would end 1-1 and go to a PK shootout. Both nations were able to convert their first chances, but Brazil missed their second while Canada converted. After two rounds Canada held the advantage; both nations scored in the third round to make it 3-2 Canada. Brazil then missed their fourth PK, while Canada scored to send them to the final!

USWNT came from behind vs Japan

Japan and the USWNT faced off in the other semifinal at this SheBelieves Cup, and surprisingly the visitors were on the board first. Japan opened the match flying, scoring in the very first minute on the first attempt at the goal. Before many could even settle into the game Japan was leading, but this did not deter a determined USWNT.

The USA got right back into the match and began to play their game of well-timed possession and runs into the attacking third. It paid off in the 21st minute as Jaedyn Shaw slotted home a great shot to bring the team’s level. As the game moved into the second half, both nations had their chances to move forward, but it was the USWNT that made the most of their chances. A PK was won in the 75th minute, and captain Lindsey Horan smashed it home to give the USA a lead, and a trip back to the SheBelieves Cup final!
