We’re now just one week away from The Masters which means the Valero Texas Open is upon us. With a stacked field all looking to sharpen up before the first Major of the year, TPC San Antonio plays host to an event that is bound to throw up some surprises.

If you’re looking to bet on the action this weekend, we’ve found 5 underdogs who could be worth a look.

Tommy Fleetwood

To win: +3000
Top-5: +700
Top-10: +330

The Englishman isn’t an underdog in the typical sense, but was red-hot towards the end of the 2023 season and was unlucky not to come away with a win on a couple of occasions. He’s started 2024 pretty well, finishing 10th at the Genesis Invitational before bouncing back from a missed cut one month later to finish 35th at The Players Championship.

The strong play didn’t stop there. He toppled Rory McIlroy earlier this year to finally get back to winning ways, claiming the DP World Tour’s Dubai Invitational, which should’ve turned some heads. Because we haven’t seen much of him stateside this year, his price is much longer than it probably should be, and I’m a sucker for some value.

While he hasn’t really been playing in the US enough to likely be a factor in Texas, he should be sniffing around the top-10 if he can continue to improve on what has been an extremely solid 12 months of play.

Aaron Rai

To win: +5500
Top-5: +1250
Top-10: +500

Aaron Rai has been pretty boom or bust this season, but he held his own in a similarly stacked field at The Players to finish in 35th place. He’s also coming off of a 7th place finish at The Houston Open, finishing only two shots off the lead.

The Englishman has made the cut in both of his previous tournament’s here an has ony missed two in nine events participated in so far this year. A top-10 prop provides some juicy value on a player who has a tendency to get hot in the final two rounds of the week and this is a course that fits his fairly balanced game.

Rickie Fowler

To win: +11000
Top-5: +2200
Top-10: +900

What has happened to Rickie Fowler?! It feels like an evergreen question, but his sudden resurrection in 2023 was such a joy to watch but it feels as if everything has dissipated. His biggest highlight of the year is losing his cool with a fan at The Players Championship…and that’s not a great sign.

However, Fowler will be making his return to The Masters for the first time in 3 years and will be using this weekend as a tune-up opportuntiy to sort the troubles off the tee and get back to a stable platform. I’d much rather be early on Fowler than late and he finished 10th here last season, so we know he’s got it in the locker.

Maverick McNealy

To win: +5000
Top-5: +1100
Top-10: +500

McNealy’s ascent into PGA Tour stability last year was a joy to watch. The question now is whether he can continue to push himself into that top tier and snag his first ever victory. A 41st place finish last week was okay, but finishing 9th at The Players Championship and recording another top-10 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open is exactly what I’m looking for here. He shines when the lights are brightest and the field is loaded.

I don’t mind taking a lotto ticket on him to win it all this weekend and considering he finished inside the top-40 here last year, I think there’s a strong chance he builds on that after a really impressive run of form to start 2024.

Adam Scott

To win: +4000
Top-5: +900
Top-10: +450

Adam Scott is always a great golfer to add to your betslips. A Wiley veteran, the 2013 Masters Champion can never really be counted out thanks to his remarkable short game. He’s been a little quieter this year but after a 39th place finish at The Masters in 2023, he too will be using this weekend to ensure a better result this time around.

Scott might lack distance off the tee, but if he can keep the ball in the fairway and allow his short game to work its usual wonders, there is some value to be had on these props.
