The Philadelphia Eagles shocked the NFL over the Easter weekend by trading superstar pass-rusher Haason Reddick to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick.
Haason Reddick opens up on trade to the Jets
‘As far as the Eagles go, it wasn’t about ‘what he has left in the tank’ or anything like that.’ Reddick explained in his first presser as a New York Jet. ‘It’s a business and sometimes hard decisions gotta be made, even if you don’t like them’.
Welp, that one hurt.
Haason Reddick joined the Eagles in 2022 in a move that yielded huge returns. The Temple product returned home and made an instant impact, amassing 27 sacks across his two years in the City, pushing them to a Super Bowl berth in his first and garnering Pro Bowl nods in each campaign.
The Camden Native was a dominant force on the defensive front and, as expected, it didn’t take long for murmurs of a contract extension to pick up. The Eagles had other ideas, however, opting to allow Reddick to seek a trade in the knowledge that meeting his demands might not be realistic given that there are some big decisions on the horizon.
Philadelphia snapped up former Jets pass-rusher Bryce Huff almost as soon as free agency opened. The 25-year-old is coming off of a 10-sack campaign and this move alone likely pushed Reddick even further out of Philadelphia, a place he wanted to remain, as he mentioned during the offseason.
It’s sad to see great players leave, especially when they want to stick around. I think I can speak for all Eagles fans when wishing Reddick the best of luck in the future.
