With WWE Wrestlemania 40 now just over a week away and set to take place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, I figured now would be the perfect time to compare the current superstars of the WWE roster to some of the brightest talents in all of Philadelphia sports.

Just how comparable are some of the top Dogs in WWE to Philadelphia’s finest? Let’s find out.

Cody Rhodes: Saquon Barkley

Just like The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes started where he believed he belonged before turning into a Superstar elsewhere. His return was met with absolute jubilation, and ever fan now wants him to finish his story.

Roman Reigns: Alejandro Bedoya

Bedoya has been the Head of the Table for the Philadelphia Union since his arrival in 2016. Although it took a little while to get going, Bedoya has been the vocal captain of the team through all of its highs and lows, coming up big when the team needs him most. He now has a strong supporting cast around him and while his reign might be coming to an end soon, he’s earned the respect of everyone who follows the team and become an icon by being a part of some of the most historic moments in recent memory..

CM Punk: Joel Embiid

There is no bigger draw in Philadelphia than last year’s MVP. He’s incredible with the media, one of the most dominant players of the last decade, and a polarizing figure in every sense. However, injuries have continued to haunt his career and often mean we get a beautiful Cake without the Cherry on top.

Drew McIntyre: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson

CJGJ knows who he is. He’s neither a hero, nor a villain, but he’s the kind of player you NEED on your team and would hate to see somewhere else. McIntyre reinvented himself during his tenure away from WWE and came back as a true superstar to fulfil his destiny as ‘The chosen one’. While CJGJ’s time in Detroit wasn’t as memorable, it was on a lower profile team and his return was also one fans cried out for.

Dom Mysterio: Tobias Harris

Sigh. Big name player who continues to be given opportunities to shine but just can’t seem to live up to the expectations often placed on his shoulders.

Gunther: Jalen Hurts

A brawling heavyweight who doesn’t need to talk that much, Gunther lets his actions do the talking. He’s one of the best wrestlers in the entire world and could elevate anyone in the locker room over the course of a 20-minute span. The aura Gunther has is remarkable and he continues to do things his way, turning heads in the process, much like Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.

Seth Rollins: Bryce Harper

Charismatic talents who are prepared to spend their entire careers with their current employers, Rollins and Harper share a lot in common. Both are pivotal cogs in their fields and have reached the top of the Mountain many times, with a plenty more expeditions in the tank.

Bobby Lashley: A.J Brown

What you see is what you get. A bonafide star who means business and delivers whenever placed under the spotlight. Both are unapologetically themselves and are often named when discussing some of the very best in the game.

Kevin Owens: Dallas Goedert

Two entirely lovable characters who never get the flowers they deserve. Sure, there are bigger names in the business, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find guys who are as consistently excellent as these two. Injuries have played their part, but fanbases of both believe that each deserves to be at the top of the totem pole once again.

Paul Heyman: John Tortorella

A Manager who doesn’t mince his words and is often regarded as controversial, yet continues to get results. Yep, that applies to both here. Both Torts and Heyman are responsible for bringing through some of the biggest stars in their fields today and continue to elevate younger talents, helping them progress through their rigid styles and exceptional work.

R-Truth: Nick Sirianni

A playful character who always means well but often ends up tripping into unfortunate places. Both have been at the top of their game at one stage or another, but through all the highs and lows, they’re just as lovable as they day they first walked into the business.

Sami Zayn: Tyrese Maxey

A baby-faced hero who everyone adores, Sami Zayn helped lift the WWE to new heights last year, in the same way that Tyrese Maxey has with the Sixers. Will either ever be true MVP material? We can all dream and all believe in their potential, and their sincerity only adds to those beliefs.

Ricochet: DeVonta Smith

Two of the most electric performers in the game today, both Smitty and Ricochet often defy physics with through remarkable athleticism, creating highlight after highlight. This feels like the most obvious comparison out there, but one could argue Smitty is the bigger star. Unfortunately, W*** O****ay didn’t sign with the WWE, so we can’t get that dream comparison.

Bronn Breaker: Tyson Foerster

A future star who is still shining under the radar, it feels almost impossible that Bronn Breaker doesn’t breakout in a big way in the next two years. The same can be said for the Flyers’ Tyson Foerster, whose unrelenting attitude on the Ice has landed him nothing but praise over the last 12 months.

Sheamus: Andre Blake

A cornerstone of the company who puts on banger, after banger, after banger. That statement applies to both of these superstars, whose careers have produced some of the biggest moments and matches over the last decade.

Carmelo Hayes: Jalen Carter

Another two breakout stars who feel destined for greatness. Both Carter and Hayes had excellent years in 2023 and figure to be cornerstones for the next five years or so.

Logan Paul: Nick Castellanos

Loud-mouthed, polarizing, but never fails to put on a show. Sounds about right for both talents.

Logan Paul and Nick Castellanos have only gotten better as the years have gone by, overcoming adversity and showing just how valuable to their respective employers they can be through continued growth and sustained success.

Otis: Landon Dickerson

Neither will ever really get their flowers for a while because of the roles they play, but both are fantastic when it comes to elevating guys around them and making their huge frames incredibly important to the success of their employers.
