Just after Noon EST on December 11th, 2023, U.S. Soccer has announced the nominees for its 2023 end-of-the-year awards to highlight the top performers across all its National Teams. Among the nominees is one of our own – Philadelphia Union homegrown, Jack McGlynn. The 20-year-old midfielder from Queens, NY has been named as one of the 4 finalists for the 2023 Chipotle Young Male Player Award.
Philadelphia Union’s Jack McGlynn listed among award finalists
After his consistent involvement in U-20 US Youth National Team during the 2022/2023 cycle, McGlynn appeared in all 5 games and served as a key piece for the United States at the 2023 U-20 World Cup. McGlynn was also called into and appeared in all 4 games for the Olympic team in October and November in preparation for the 2024 Paris Games.
With his home club of Philadelphia Union, McGlynn had somewhat of a breakout season in 2023, appearing in 44 games across all competitions. McGlynn also cemented himself as a mainstay in the Union XI, starting in 28 of those games 44 games and notching 3 goals and 4 assists for the blue and gold this season.
Most importantly for McGlynn and his development, it felt like the 20-year-old took a huge step on the defensive side of the ball this season – becoming a more reliable 2-way player for Curtin – which should translate over to the level of trust he receives at the National team level in the future.
