The Philadelphia Flyers (9-7-1) matched their season-high from 2022-2023, constructing a four-game winning streak after an overtime victory versus the Vegas Golden Knights yesterday.

Sean Couturier secured the game-winner. His fourth goal of the season helped Carter Hart secure a victory versus the reigning and defending Stanley Cup champions.

At 5:30pm, the Columbus Blue Jackets (4-10-4) visit the Wells Fargo Center. On October 12th, both teams began their 2023-2024 season head-to-head. Cam Atkinson scored an empty-net goal, representing the game-winner at Nationwide Arena, 4-2.

“I’m excited to be back with the boys, and a little icing on the cake that it’s here in Columbus.”

Frustration is beginning to boil over for the Blue Jackets. They’re losers of eight in a row, but they’re playing the competition closely, which Pascal Vincent mentioned after a loss to the Washington Capitals last night:

“It’s getting old, you know? It’s getting old to shoot ourselves in the foot. We do so many good things, and I’m repeating myself, just play the same tape as the last game. We do a lot of good things, we’re playing the right way; yeah, we make mistakes, [and] the other team makes mistakes as well. But then, we make those mistakes at the wrong time, and it’s costing us games, costing us points.”

Ivan Provorov, in 22:04 on the ice, scored a backhanded goal in the third period after blocking a couple of shots earlier in the game against the Capitals. He did turn the puck over twice, in the offensive and defensive zone, but Columbus wasn’t burnt by his giveaways. Earlier this season, Provorov was on the ice for 25:11 versus the Flyers, making a hit and blocking three shots, but Travis Konecny got the last laugh, getting a check on Provorov before potting an empty-net goal.

Here’s the tentative lineup for the Columbus Blue Jackets, per Jeff Svoboda:

Voronkov-Fantilli-Marchenko
Sillinger-Jenner-Chinakhov
Gaudreau-Olivier
Texier-Kuraly-Danforth

Provorov-Severson
Werenski-Gudbranson
Bean-Jiricek
Boqvist

Sam Ersson will start versus Spencer Martin. Bobby Brink returns to the lineup, replacing Morgan Frost. John Tortorella seemed ready to ride with the same lineup during the win streak before hosting the Golden Knights. With the back-to-back schedule, he may want to see Brink play after Frost on consecutive nights to help refocus the mechanics of his lineup.

“I have to worry about the mechanics of a lineup, too, when I’m playing people and sitting people out. I don’t enjoy sitting anybody out, but I have to make those decisions.”

John Tortorella; 11/9/2023

Couturier, in addition to scoring the overtime game-winner versus Vegas, notched an assist when Sean Walker scored. In the 4-2 win against the Blue Jackets to open the season, Couturier secured the assist when Joel Farabee scored the first goal of the season for Philadelphia.

Here’s the tentative lineup for the Philadelphia Flyers:

Foerster-Couturer-Konecny
Tippett-Laughton-Atkinson
Farabee-Poehling-Brink
Deslauriers-Cates-Hathaway

York-Sanheim
Seeler-Walker
Zamula-Belpedio
