On the road for the last time of the 2023 NHL Preseason, the Philadelphia Flyers visit the Boston Bruins at the TD Garden Arena.

The Flyers are 0-2-0. They pressed the New York Islanders, but the Flyers were stranded, 2-1. Despite the result, it was better than Monday; the New Jersey Devils ran away with a 6-0 shutout.

“That’s a game where some guys could barely put one foot in front of the other. That’s the volume of skating they went through. I know my general managers get mad at me about it, but it’s the proper way I like going about camp. The first couple games; they’re hard for these guys because the volume of skating.”

Salvaging a victory on the road is a bonus. The focus remains on building a case to make the Flyers roster before the exhibitions begin at the Wells Fargo Center.

Boston Bruins

The Bruins are 1-1-0. On Tuesday, they dropped their latest exhibition to the Buffalo Sabres, 4-1.

“I liked the way our defensemen helped pucks in the offensive zone. It’s something we think we can get better at. I like the way we fought.”

Jim Montgomery; 9/26/2023

Brad Marchand is the newly appointed captain in Boston. His leadership replaces Patrice Bergeron. However, without Bergeron, the approach changes to their offense. Marchand is learning to work with Pavel Zacha, who is also in tonight’s lineup.

“I think it will help him [Zacha] get his shot off more or be a little more dangerous on that side. For me, I don’t have the same threat with Pav there as I did with Bergey [Bergeron]. We’ll look for shot tips a little more often.”

Here’s the tentative lineup for the Boston Bruins, per Joe Pohoryles:

Richard-Zacha-Pastrnak
Marchand-Poitras-Heinen
Greer-Farinacci-Lauko
Harrison-Merkulov-Chiasson

Lohrei-McAvoy
Lindholm-Shattenkirk
Wotherspoon-Walsh

Philadelphia Flyers

John Tortorella advised Cam York is day-to-day, but Cam Atkinson is healthy. He will not be in the lineup tonight, however.

“I’m sure I’ll be playing in one of the next couple coming up.”

Cam Atkinson; 9/28/2023

Garnet Hathaway is in the lineup. Set to make his home on the Flyers’ bottom six, Hathaway fits on the bottom line with Nicolas Deslauriers and Ryan Poehling, his linemates against Boston. They’re a bruising, physical line, and Poehling is accountable for the lone Flyers goal this preseason.

“They know their roles. They play the same way every shift; they’re predictable. That’s what’s good when you’re playing and getting chemistry with one another, is the predictability of your linemates. They’re all on the same page, and I thought they played really well last game. The opposition doesn’t like when they get on the ice. When you’re hard to play against like that, it’s important. They can play against good lines, too.”

Rocky Thompson; 9/29/2023

Here’s the tentative lineup for the Philadelphia Flyers:

Tippett-Frost-Brink
Farabee-Desnoyers-Foerster
Deslauriers-Poehling-Hathaway
Bellerive-Gaucher-Marody

Zamula-Sanheim
Mete-Grans
Seeler-Belpedio
