Pitching matchup

Zach Wheeler (10-6, 3.59 ERA) vs Freddie Peralta (11-8, 3.95 ERA)

Happy Wheelsday! The Phillies will send Zach Wheeler to the mound for the opening game of this series as he looks to stifle the league’s 18th-ranked offense. Wheeler comes into this matchup on the back of a dominant month of August where he maintained a 3.00 ERA and allowed only 25 hits in 33 innings. A red-hot Wheeler is bad news for anyone, but especially so for a Brewers offense that ranks 7th from bottom over their last 3 games.

Across from Wheeler will be facing Freddy Peralta, who has also been very hot this Summer. So hot, in fact, that he’s struck out 10+ batters in 4 of his last 9 games. Along with sporting a 2.10 ERA in the month of August, Peralta has only allowed 2 home runs. He seems like the perfect antidote for a Phils offense that refuses to slow down.

Phillies vs Brewers Betting preview

From a Phillies perspective, this could be tricky to bet. The Phillies scored 42 runs and allowed 18 last week. They also led the league in three categories. Their team’s batting average of .329 and slugging percentage of .628 are the best in the league, while their 14 homers is second only to the Mariners.

Even if Freddy Peralta can stop the bleeding for 6-7 innings, there is no guarantee that the bullpen will follow suit.

This is a strong pitching matchup that has given us a very low total, but something has to give. Two red-hot pitchers and one red-hot offense. The chances of one pitcher flailing just a little is strong, and the Phils offense could be even as half as good as it has been last week and still put up 5 runs.

I’m going contrarian and backing the over.
