The Union secured their latest win last night down in DC. The 3-1 win was a good entrance back into regular season play. During the win, two players made some history for the club! Goalkeeper, Andre Blake, and attacking midfielder, Daniel Gazdag both moved up certain charts in Union history!

Philadelphia Union’s all-time appearance leader: Andre Blake

The Philadelphia Union made waves in the 2014 MLS Draft. Yes, the Union used to utilize the draft. The waves the club made was to trade up to the top spot; with that pick, they chose a goalkeeper out of the University of Connecticut. Andre Blake joined Philadelphia as a rookie back in 2014, but he didn’t see the field much at all. That’s what happens when the club has three goalkeepers already on the roster. However, after a bit of time, Blake won the starting spot, and has made himself a club legend!

Last night, Andre Blake took the top spot in Union appearances with 222. The Philly legend has cemented himself as one of, if not the best goalkeepers, in MLS history. Blake is the only keeper to win MLS Goalkeeper of the Year three times and has been on the MLS Best XI list twice in his 10 seasons of play.

This milestone was one that was coming for Blake, who continues to be the rock for a Philadelphia side that has continued to climb the ranks of the best teams in MLS. Blake has individual accolades, has won one trophy for the club, and is the co-captain of this team, can he help this club win another trophy this season?

Daniel Gazdag: 36 MLS goals; 2nd all-time in club history

Daniel Gazdag was signed two years ago, and his inclusion has allowed Philly to go from a team that has been on the rise, to a team that competes year-in and year-out for trophies. In his short two years, Gazdag has racked up 36 goals in league play. This is thanks to his PK last night against DC, and his brilliance from the spot over the last year! Gazdag has tied CJ Sapong for the second spot on the scoring charts in MLS history for the Union. Now he’s only 15 goals away from surpassing club legend Sebastien Le Toux for Philly’s top spot in MLS history!

Daniel Gazdag is a goal machine. While he’s now second on Philly’s all-time leading scorers list in MLS play, he is also second all-time for the club in all competitions as well. He has racked up 46 goals across all competitions for Philadelphia. He’s still chasing Le Toux for that top spot, but Seba had 53 goals all-time!

How long could it take Daniel Gazdag to rack up eight more goals? He’ll pass Le Toux on the all-time scoring list then; 15 more in league play will see him as the Union’s leading goal scorer in MLS, and across all competitions. With the way this Philly team is playing, this could be sooner rather than later!
