The Philadelphia Phillies have now been able to top the San Francisco Giants in both games played in this series so far and will be looking to complete the sweep on Wednesday afternoon. It would be their first series win since the one over the Nationals nearly 2 weeks ago.

Pitching matchup
Michael Lorenzen (7-8, 3.57 ERA) vs Alex Cobb (6-5, 3.75 ERA)
Michael Lorenzen’s tenure in Philly got off to a flyer. A no-hitter against the Nationals automatically put him into the history books in what was a dream start. The start that followed was a little more worrying. Maybe it was the highs from the no-hitter, but Lorenzen was punished by those same Nats to the tune of 8 hits and 7 runs. The hope today is that he returns to a happy middle ground. Prior to joining the Phils he allowed 3 runs across his 4 most recent games, with all of them coming in the same outing. The ceiling appears to be sky-high for Lorenzen which should give us some value on props.
Across from Lorenzen will be Alex Cobb. The veteran had a strong month of July but has settled down a little in August. Through 4 games he has an ERA of 7.59. He’s allowed 6 homers in that time which is alarming given how explosive the Phils offense has been as of late, and he hasn’t struck out more than 5 batters once in that span. This could be a game worth exploring pitching props on both sides.

Giants vs Phillies Betting preview
The Giants have lost 10 of their last 13 matchups and the Phils are hardly the team to buck that trend against. Alex Cobb has struggled in recent weeks and has also been sub-par on the road. He now faces a Phillies offense that performs well at home and has made light work of the San Fran offense. Take the Phils -1.5 here.
If you’re looking for props – Bryce Harper is my main of choice today. He’s hit 2 home runs in this series and is +500 to hit another this evening. His hit-line is over 1.5 at +1.55 which is also appealing.
As far as pitchers go, I’m happy to ride Michael Lorenzen getting OVER 4.5 strikeouts and Alex Cobb getting UNDER 4.5.
