Fresh off a Rose Bowl victory, the Penn State Nittany Lions looked primed to run it back in 2023. The question now is whether or not they can go one better and win the Big Ten Conference.

Penn State Odds: Nittany Lions +550 to win Big Ten in 2023

Ohio State+170
Michigan+175
Penn State+550
Wisconsin+750
Iowa+1200

A Rose Bowl win and an 11-win season capped a great campaign for the 2022 Nittany Lions, who ended the season with only 2 blemishes on their record. However, that still wasn’t enough to unseat eventual winners Michigan, who ‘bucked’ Ohio State’s four-year title streak.

The odds would suggest much of the same in 2023. Ohio State and Michigan look set to duke it out for honors while Penn State seems to be a comfortable third. However, there are plenty of reasons to be bullish about Penn State this season.

Should you back Penn State in 2023?

They might have a changing of the guard at quarterback, but Drew Allar comes into the fray on the back of an impressive stint as Sean Clifford’s backup. He completed 35 out of 60 passes last year for 344 yards and 4 touchdowns in relief of the now Green Bay Packer. He seemed comfortable then and should only be more so now given that he’ll be familiar with just about everyone on that offense.

Five starters along the offensive line are returning, including Olu Fashanu, giving Allar a wall of muscle to protect him. Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen return to the Penn State backfield after combining for over 1,700 yards last year, and while they may lack a true #1 receiver, their tight ends are athletic enough to inject real fear into opposing defenses.
