Eagles vs Browns: preseason analysis
As with any preseason game, don’t expect the starting quarterbacks to be suiting up in Eagles vs Browns. It’s highly unlikely we see much of Jalen Hurts or Deshaun Watson this preseason, but we will see a healthy dose of backups.
Eagles
Marcus Mariota didn’t exactly look great in his first showing as an Eagle, and neither did Ian Book. Sandwiched between the two, however, was a very impressive outing from 6th-round pick Tanner McKee. The Stanford product looked calm and confident in his first taste of NFL action and will be hoping to build on that against a Browns defense that has only allowed 33 points through two preseason games.

Tyrie Cleveland led the Eagles in receiving yards and doubled down with a strong joint practice against the Browns. He could well become a favorite target for McKee in the team’s second preseason game.
The defense looked good in the preseason opener. No team tries as hard to win preseason games as the Ravens and the Eagles were able to stay within a score thanks to Eli Ricks and his impressive pick-six. Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith looked very solid in their debuts and there’s every reason to believe the defense will come out just as hot against the Browns. They set the tone in Monday’s practice and will be looking to do so when the lights turn on at Lincoln Financial Field.
Browns
On the Browns side of things, Dorian Thompson-Robinson looked great against the Commanders, and even better against the Jets. Cleveland might have seen all they need to out of their rookie and could well opt to play just Josh Dobbs and Kellen Mond, who were efficiently able to move the offense last week. Austin Watkins was the breakout WR, recording 71 yards on 6 passes. He will have a much tougher day at the office against a stacked Philadelphia secondary, so it will be interesting to see how he fares.
Eagles vs Browns: Preseason betting pick
The Eagles covered the spread in their preseason opener, and I think they cover here too. Cleveland played in the Hall of Fame Game so has one more week of hitting under its belt and fatigue may start to set in. Factor in that we most likely won’t see Deshaun Watson (unlike last week), and there’s little reason for guys like David Bell to be playing, and I think Philadelphia has more than enough talent on the roster to get past Cleveland comfortably.

With a deep secondary including the likes of Kelee Ringo and Sydney Brown who will undoubtedly see plenty of playing time, I can’t imagine a stripped-back Browns offense doing too much damage against this Eagles defense – especially one that’s just inherited Myles Jack and Zach Cunningham, who will be competing for a starting role.
