The Philadelphia Eagles are now just a couple of days away from a preseason clash with the Cleveland Browns. The two teams locked horns in two joint practices this week, with the Browns being the clear victors in the first one. Today’s practice saw Philadelphia respond to what was a very sloppy opening day.
Eagles bounce back in joint practice against the Browns
It’s safe to say the Eagles took Monday’s practice personally. They dominated Cleveland during their second joint practice.
UDFA CB Josh Jobe put the cherry on the cake with an interception against Josh Dobbs in 11-on-11 drills in a play that was very much par for the course on the day.
Josh Sweat had a strip sack early on, while Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham also headlined a day of dominance for the defense.
Marcus Mariota bounces back
On offense, the Eagles ended things with a touchdown and even Marcus Mariota saw an increase in production. He’d struggled up to this point but a bounceback against the Browns might just restore some much-needed confidence for the veteran quarterback.

Mariota hit Tyrie Cleveland with an over-the-shoulder throw that went for a touchdown in a play that is bound to spark intrigue. Cleveland led the Eagles in receiving during their preseason opener and is only picking up the pace as time goes on.
A trio of touchdowns from Mariota highlighted a particularly impressive day from the former Titans starter, and he wasn’t the only QB throwing darts…
Jalen Hurts sets the tone
Jalen Hurts sought out A.J Brown on a deep 25-yard bomb to the corner of the endzone earlier on which set the tone for the Eagles. Having just signed a new deal with the Jordan brand, Hurts looked as poised as he ever has on Tuesday. He stated in an earlier presser that he values joint practices more than preseason games, which is absolutely valid. He proved that point by slinging it with confidence against the Browns.
The Eagles came out swinging (from a south Philly Basement) today and made it clear that they were not going to be taking these practices for granted. A complete team effort saw Philly claim would-be honors on day 2, leading us to a preseason showdown where both teams will want bragging rights.
Reed Blankenship picks off 2 passes
Reed Blankenship hit the ground running this Summer but he is sprinting at this point. He picked off two passes against the Browns today in an outing that very much cemented his status as a bonafide starter on this team.
Blankenship’s development has been really fun to watch. It’s scary to think that he’s only 24 years old. Now that he’s in a full-time starting role, that process will hopefully be expedited as the Middle Tennessee sleeper looks to ascend the NFL rankings.
