The Philadelphia Phillies emerged victorious in their most recent series against the Royals and will be looking to extend the gap back to the Marlins with another series win over the struggling Nationals. Now 10.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves, all eyes are on the wildcard race and the Phils will need to keep stacking up wins to secure their spot in the postseason.

Ranger Suarez will head to the mound tonight after a wobbly game against the Marlins where he allowed 10 hits, getting away with giving up just a single run. The Nationals are at the bottom of the NL East and have struggled to do much of anything offensively. This should give Suarez a bounce-back opportunity.

Across from Suarez will be Trevor Williams, who has given up 4+ runs in each of his last 2 starts. He’s also failed to strike out more than 3 batters in each of his last 3. However, this has brought his line down to 3.5 and I wouldn’t mind flirting with the OVER given that he’s facing a Phillies team that ranks 24th in strikeouts per game. The Nats might not win, but Williams can at least prolong the damage enough for the bullpen to have half a chance.

Since the 2022 season, the Nationals are 5-20 against the Phillies. If that doesn’t convince you to back the home team, I’m not sure what will.

If it’s a prop bet you’re looking for, I do like betting over 4.5 runs through the first 7 innings at +115.. Suarez might have only allowed 1 run last time out, but there was definitely a crack in the armor. I feel like both teams could slug this one out and a few early runs should leave this number feeling very gettable by the time we hit the 5th inning.
