The Philadelphia Phillies tied up their series against the Orioles in dramatic fashion last night, coming from behind in the 9th inning to secure a hard-fought win. With the final game in the three-game set taking place tonight, the Phils will be hoping to go one further and win a series against the current AL East leaders.

Pitching matchup

Ranger Suarez (2-5, 4.07 ERA) vs Kyle Bradish (6-5, 3.05 ERA)

The month of July hasn’t been particularly kind to Ranger Suarez. Sporting a 6.14 ERA through 4 games, he’s allowed 29 hits and 4 home runs in that span. The good news is that Orioles are hardly lighting it up offensively right now. They’re batting .236 on the road, and .206 in their last 3. The Phils have held them to 6 runs in their last 2 games and there’s no reason that trend should switch up this evening.

Kyle Bradish, has been a huge success story for Baltimore, rapidly ascending through the starting lineup to become arguably their strongest asset. He ranks 10th in ERA among pitchers who have gone 90+ innings and his walk rate is just 6%. Suarez is going to need to be at his best to keep stride with Bradish, who will have every intention of silencing a Phillies offense that could either explode or disappear softly into the night.

Phillies vs Orioles Betting preview

For me, the TOTAL is the play here. After whiffing on last night’s pick, I’m going to double down. 9 runs feels a little too strong considering Ranger Suarez and Kyle Bradish are taking to the mound. The under is 38-29-7 when the Phils play teams averaging under 4.2 runs, and 36-28-6 when they have 3 consecutive days of games. The Under is also 10-5 in Kyle Bradish starts.

Since we’re backing the under, I’m also going to play Ranger Suarez OVER 4.5 strikeouts at -155. He’s passed this number in 6 of his last 8 games and Baltimore’s offense is faltering just enough to provide us with an edge here.
