You might be slightly surprised to see that Philadelphia Eagles fans are not the most passionate in the NFL…according to this study anyway.
With the new NFL season just around the corner, researchers at Canada Sports Betting decided to create a ranking of the most passionate fanbases in the league. To do this, they’d look at the volume of more than 500 keywords over the last 3 years including terms for performance, merchandise, news, rumors, and tickets.
Philadelphia Eagles fans are the SECOND most dedicated in the NFL?
The ranking suggests that it’s the Cincinnati Bengals who have the most dedicated fans, with their keywords seeing an 80% rise in volume this past year. Maybe that’s just because they’re good now and have likable stars? Perhaps this is not a *true* reflection of a fanbase’s dedication? Or maybe the Bengals would sell out a week 3 matchup against the Jags…
‘Who Dey Nation’ has shown the most interest in their team’s performance since this study commenced. The Eagles, meanwhile, saw their keyword volume rise 42% year-on-year over the last three seasons, suggesting a sharp increase in dedication from the fanbase. I’d argue that Eagles fans were already likely hitting a high volume so it’s much easier for a team like Cincy to see a huge increase.
It’s sort of like how a 20-handicapper in Golf as a better chance of shooting a ‘lower’ score than someone who plays off of 3. It’s much harder for someone that’s already great at the game to shoot below their handicap than someone with a lot of untapped potential.
It’s nice to see Eagles fans listed so high in this ranking, but I think we all really know who the most dedicated fanbase in Football is…
