Pitching matchup

Taijuan Walker (4-3, 5.65 ERA) vs Tyler Alexander (0-0, 6.75 ERA)

After the Phillies offense exploded into life against Joey Wentz, they now face a pitcher making his first start of the season in Tyler Alexander. His appearances have been a mixed bag this season, giving up 17 runs in 24 innings pitched. He’s only likely going to pitch 2-3 innings tops before giving the reins over to a bullpen that’s given up 206 runs this season and is the 4th worst unit in the entire league in strikeouts. This should be a huge opportunity for the Phils to build some momentum.

Across from Alexander will be Taijuan Walker, who held pretty firm against the New York Mets in his most recent outing and is averaging over 7 strikeouts per 9 innings. He’s allowed fewer than 4 hits in 9 of 12 of his appearances this year and against an offense as quiet as Detroit’s, he should have a comfortable day at the office.

Phillies vs Tigers Betting preview

Once again, this is a mismatch. The Tigers rank 29th in batting average, hits, and runs, and happen to have one of the worst bullpens in the league. They’ll be giving the bullpen the opportunity to run this game, but the Phils put up 11 runs in the opening contest and there’s no reason that production can’t be replicated here.

Garrett Hill appears to be the man looking to take the Lion’s share of pitches tonight and he averages a 10.29 ERA. This should be a very comfortable Phillies win.

As far as props go, it could be worth looking at Trea Turner, who burst out of his slump in the opening game of this series. He hit two home runs on Monday with 4 hits in total and is +370 to hit another home run tonight. If momentum is a real thing, Turner could be in a prime spot to really begin rallying.
