The Philadelphia Phillies struggled to keep pace with the Atlanta Braves over the weekend and now have the arduous task of trying to do the same with the New York Mets.

Pitching matchup

Ranger Suarez (0-1, 9.82 ERA) vs  Kodai Senga (4-3 3.94 ERA)

In an ideal world, this will be the game Ranger Suarez finally returns to form, but it’s never that simple. Still without a quality start to his name, Suarez comes up against a Mets side including plenty of power. With names like Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo on deck, it will be interesting to see if Suarez can go longer than 5 innings and finally punch in the start fans have been clamoring for.

As for Senga, he gave up 6 hits and 3 runs against the Cubs in his last start, but has a stunning 1.57 ERA at home. Considering the Phils come into this series averaging only 4 runs per game in their last 10, there’s no reason that Senga should be fearful despite Philadelphia’s ability to crank things up a notch with ease.

Phillies vs Mets Betting preview

The Phillies have really struggled to keep pace with the rest of the NL East this season but it’s not like the New York Mets are doing much better. They only have 2 more wins than the Phillies and despite the stars in their lineup, only rank 17th in batting average. It’s surprising then that the run total in their last 10 games has gone OVER 7 times.

Both offenses have been inconsistent this year and if Ranger Suarez does find his footing, this total is way too high. I’d be happy to back the UNDER for today’s game.

Elsewhere, Pete Alonso is riding a two-game hitting streak coming into this contest and is -190 to keep the streak alive. Nick Castellanos has the same odds as Alonso to record a hit, and is leading the Phillies in batting average with .300. You could parlay both of these lines in a Same-Game Parlay along with the Under to get much better odds.
