The Philadelphia Phillies have had a disappointing start to their 2023 campaign but are starting to right the ship. A hat-trick of wins including a sweep over the Blue Jays has seen the Phils burst back into life and they’ll be hoping to use that momentum to get past a disappointing Rockies side.

Pitching matchup
Taijuan Walker (3-2, 5.97 ERA) vs Austin Gomber (3-4, 6.75 ERA)
Taijuan Walker’s start to the season has been shaky, but his effort on Sunday was enough to earn a win over the Red Sox. He only gave up 1 run and 3 hits across 6 innings and is now facing a Rockies offense that sits right around the midway point in the league in most metrics.
As for Gomber, this has to be worrying. He does appear to have settled down after allowing 22 runs in his first four appearances, but this is a Phillies offense that’s heating up and a Rockies defense that’s giving up a .260 batting average and allowing 5 runs per game. Even if Gomber has a solid day at the mound, there’s no guarantee it will be enough to secure a win.

Phillies vs Rockies Betting preview
The key for Philadelphia is what it has been for a while now – scoring. The team ranks 5th in the league when it comes to batting average, but ranks 21st in runs scored. That’s a huge discrepancy that only amplifies issues in the pen and on the mound.
The good news is that the Phils rank 5th in runs scored over their last 3 games (all wins) and may well have turned a corner. If that’s the case, it really doesn’t bode well for Gomber and a Rockies defense that’s giving up more triples than any team in baseball.
Phillies vs Rockies Betting picks
I like the Phillies -1.5 at even money here. They’re riding a wave of momentum that should see them comfortably break a road-game losing streak of 4 come to an end.
As far as prop bets, betting on Bryce Harper to record 1.5+ bases (-110) against a leaky defense feels like a fairly safe option. You could choose any Phillies slugger really.
Brandon Marsh is registering a hit every other game over his last 10. It’s literally a pattern of hit, no hit. He didn’t register one last time out so I’ll back that too at -220.
