NFL Rookie of the Year Odds: Jalen Carter & Nolan Smith Prices after NFL Draft
The Philadelphia Eagles hit a home run in the first round of the NFL Draft, rounded the bases, and decided to do it again on their next plate appearance. Howie Roseman was able to poach two defensive stalwarts from Georgia in the way of Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith. If you’re looking to get some early action on them to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, the prices are certainly enticing.

This list is certainly interesting as it looks like it’s correlated to the draft order of each prospect. Jalen Carter coming in at +800 is a strong starting point. He had 7 TFL and 3 sacks during his final year at Georgia and will be reuniting with former running mate, Jordan Davis, who helped him record 8.5 TFL in the year prior.
The value for me comes in the way of Nolan Smith. Carter isn’t going to start right away and if we look at where most of the Eagles’ pass-rushing damage was done last year, it was from explosive EDGE players cleaning up what the interior guys wrecked. The Eagles have a different defensive coordinator now, but the premise will likely remain the same.
Smith’s path to a larger role is arguably easier. Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat are starting-caliber players, but there’s no reason why Smith can’t force himself into the conversation early, or at least capitalize on the downs he does play when the O-line is worn down. At +1600, Smith feels like great bet to storm up the order and clinch Defensive Rookie of the Year.
