The Philadelphia Phillies dropped a sloppy series opener to the Rockies before rebounding with back-to-back wins to advance to 11-12 on the season. They now host the 10-12 Seattle Mariners at Citizens Bank Park and will be looking for their third win in a row.

Phillies vs Mariners Betting preview

Pitching matchup

Bailey Falter (0-3, 4.50 ERA), Logan Gilbert (1-1, 3.57 ERA)

Bailey Falter’s aim for this season is simple – secure his role as the fifth starter. So far, so good. While he’s 0-3, it’s safe to say that not much of the damage has fallen on the shoulders of the 26-year-old. He allowed a 2.61 ERA through his opening two starts and with Seattle ranking 18th in runs per game and 25th in hits, this could be a great spot to finally get that first earned win, especially with the Mariners really struggling against lefties.

As for Gilbert, he’ll be hoping for more than his last start which saw him give up 5 hits and 4 runs against the Brewers. With hat said, he has surrendered at least 4 hits in each of his starts this season and although he’s clearly doing something right, this is a Phillies offense that can catch fire at any time.

Betting preview

The advantage here certainly lies with Philadelphia. Falter has a favorable pitching matchup and the Phils offense seems to be finding its groove. They rank 3rd in hits per game and are averaging 9.2 at home. The Phils should be in a prime spot to gain some ground against Logan Gilbert.

Bailey Falter hasn’t really been known for his ability to strike out this season, but he is forcing more outs. Against a wobbling offense like the Mariners, he should be able to surpass the 4.5 strikeout total here. He’s yet to do so this season, but has at least three in 3 of his 4 mound appearances. This should be a great situation for Falter to get over that number.

If you want value, an Edmundo Sosa hit is -175. He’s recorded a hit in 5 of his last 6 games but has only scored 2 runs this season. If you’re hoping for the floodgates to open, a Sosa run is priced at +190 which could be a really strong value play.

From Seattle’s standpoint, it’s hard to look past 1B Ty France. He has 15 RBI on the year but has struggled to make contact over his last 14 at-bats, registering only 2 hits. Falter may yield a hit to France here, but if he doesn’t, the bullpen absolutely could.

Phillies vs White Sox betting picks

Total Falter strikeouts: OVER 4.5: -105
Edmundo Sosa to score a run: +190
Phillies to win outright: +120
