Pitching matchup

Zack Wheeler (0-1, 4.02 ERA), Lance Lynn (0-01 7.31 ERA)

Zack Wheeler was solid against the Marlins before the house he built crumbled late in the game. He went six innings and showcased his saucy slider along with some real eye-raising velocity in his six-inning outing.

As for Lance Lynn, it’s been an underwhelming start to the year. He pitched a 3.99 ERA in 2022, but that number stands at 7.31 through 16 innings so far. The veteran could be looking to bounce back, but seeing the Phils explode for 14 runs in their last game is hardly going to inspire confidence.

Betting preview

The Phillies offense has really started to rally into life. After a shaky start, Toppers Totts have found a rhythm. Bryson Stott now leads the NL in hits (27), while Nick Castellanos leads the entire league in doubles, and Brandon Marsh surprisingly does so in triples.

What’s interesting is that you’d assume the team would be among the best offenses when it comes to homers. In fact, the Phils rank 24th in home runs per game. Kyle Schwarber leads the team with 4, but there is a clear focus on scoring as opposed to the huge plays. The offense is batting .293 which is a current MLB best so this is hardly anything to be concerned about.

As for Chicago, their .418 slugging percentage ranks 10th in all of baseball, but they’re only averaging 4.6 runs per game. It is worth noting that they have 4 batters averaging over .300 coming into this game and just like Philadelphia, they’re an efficient offense when it comes to base hits.

Jake Burger has enjoyed a hot start to the year, scoring 4 home runs and batting a .350 average. He’s currently riding a 3-game hit streak and has scored a run in each of those contests. He could well be in position to keep the run alive here.

Phillies vs White Sox betting picks
