The Formula 1 circus travels to Melbourne for the Australian GP this weekend. Red Bull soar into the third round of the season with two wins to their name, but Aston Martin have thrown the proverbial Cat amongst the Pigeons, taking the fight to both Ferrari and Mercedes, and even the reigning Champs in the opening rounds. What does this weekend have in store?
Formula 1 Australian GP Odds:
Max Verstappen | -280 |
Sergio Perez | +380 |
Fernando Alonso | +800 |
Lewis Hamilton | +2200 |
Charles LeClerc | +2200 |
George Russell | +4000 |
Carlos Sainz | +5500 |
Lance Stroll | +15000 |
It shouldn’t be surprising to see Max Verstappen listed as the heavy favorite to win the third round of the season. Despite starting from 15th in Jeddah, he stormed through the field to narrowly finished second, although teammate Sergio Perez will be a little concerned after Max again defied team orders to push for the win.
Last year’s winner here, Charles Leclerc, also had a strong days practice. This bodes well for a Ferrari team that has struggled up to this point when it pertains to outright pace. It was clear in Bahrain that the Red Bull’s were on a completely different level, forcing Ferrari into an aggressive strategy to even stand a chance. With previous success here and it being the first day-race of the season, it could be an opportunity to turn to the Scuderia once more.
Where to find value at the Formula 1 Australian GP

Charles Leclerc to finish on the podium: +150
As aforementioned, Leclerc is a previous winner here. Ferrari has shown it has pace over a single lap, and if they can somehow stick a car on the front row, this is not a track renowned for overtaking. Obviously Max is a different animal, but any advantage for Ferrari is an important one and there could be a slight edge here.
Fernando Alonso to win the Australian GP: +800
It would hardly be surprising to see a Red Bull win this weekend, but until they prove to be beatable, there is a lot of value on outsiders – none more so than Fernando Alonso, who scraped into the lead last time out before a Lance Stroll-caused Safety Car removed any tactical edge they had over Sergio Perez. I think the Silverstone-based team win a race this year, why not this one?
Alpine Double top-10 finish at the Australian GP: -110
Both Ocon and Gasly looked much quicker around the streets of Jeddah and they now move to a similar circuit with much more favorable temperatures. Pierre Gasly has scored on both occasions so far while his french teammate would’ve likely done the same had he not decided to pick up every penalty under the sun. I think -110 is good odds for a double points finish.
