The San Francisco Giants were among the biggest disappointments of the 2022 season and will be looking to right the ship in 2023. Logan Webb is among the league’s most dominant pitchers, but Gerritt Cole is no slouch. This is a great pitching matchup to start the year and one that is going to require the most out of both lineups.
In theory, the Yankees have the batting advantage. It’s great that players like Mitch Haniger are on deck to try and push Cole deep into the game, but that Yankees batting lineup is something else. Aaron Judge put together one of the greatest seasons of all time last year and is supported by an almighty cast.
From a betting standpoint, I think this gives us an edge. It’s the first game and we don’t need to go super deep into trends or analytics to find value here.

Two elite pitchers will take to the mound on Thursday and while the batting lineups are good, there will be some rust to shake off. Temperatures aren’t as high as they are in the heart of the regular season and while we can expect a few bombs deep into the game, the starting pitchers should keep this game comfortably under 8 runs.
