The Philadelphia Union fell to a chaotic 3-2 defeat at the hands of Montreal last time out but will stay at Subaru Park as they play host to Orlando City SC on Saturday evening. A win could see the Union push as high as second in the Eastern Conference and they will be keen to avenge their injury time collapse.

Philadelphia Union vs Orlando City game preview

Much has been said about the U’s disappointing defeat to Montreal in which they gave up two injury time goals, but they have to press on and will do so at less than 100%.

Andre Blake’s injury and Julián Carranza’s brutally timed suspension will haunt the River End on Saturday which is bound to cause a wave of changes throughout. The Union has often been lauded for its impressive squad depth and now it’s going to be tested.

With that said, every cloud has a silver lining. Mikael Uhre scored a brace in the loss to Montreal and that could not have come at a better time. Julian Carranza is absent and Daniel Gazdag is out on international duty with Hungary. It will be down to Uhre to deliver again if the Union are going to be victorious here.

As for Orlando, they too have been hit with some depth troubled due to the international break. Facundo Torres joins Pedro Gallese and Wilder Cartagena on flights out of Orlando and that’s not the only similarity to the Union this week. Their own DP, Martin Ojeda, scored for the first time last week and just like Uhre, will be expected to shoulder the load in this clash.

One had to wonder whether or not Andres Perea, acquired by the Union this offseason, will feature. Perea was traded to the U from Orlando after an 86-game stint with the Lions. He’s featured sparingly so far but that may chance against his former team.

Philadelphia Union vs Orlando City prediction

This game could be very interesting. The Boys in Blue will be missing Andre Blake and that’s a huge catalyst. There will be increased pressure on an otherwise luckily unaffected backline. Both teams have had wobbly starts to the year and limp into this matchup. I’ll back the under 2.5 selection here, with both teams likely happy to come away with a draw.

Betting pick: Under 2.5 goals -190
