The Philadelphia Union return home from their first CONCACAF Champions League escapade for a tilt against the Chicago Fire. The Union will be hoping to return to winning ways after a disappointing loss against Miami before their goalless tie against Allianza.

Philadelphia Union vs Chicago Fire team history

These two teams have clashed 31 times before with the Union taking 14 wins. There have been 7 draws and 10 Chicago victories over that span. The Union won the last matchup 4-0.

Philadelphia Union vs Chicago Fire game preview

The Philadelphia Union have a tricky immediate schedule to balance. Having just scraped a draw in their CONCACAF Champions League debut, they’re back in Philadelphia this weekend before having to host Allianza for the second leg of that Champions League tie. The Union haven’t scored in either of their last two games and Jim Curtin will be hoping to change that today.

Not only did the Union extinguish the Fire in their most recent fixture, but the U haven’t lost at home since December 2021, per Sportsmole. Of their 19 home games against league competition last season, Philadelphia was held scoreless just once. The odds of a scoring explosion surely favor Curtin’s side.

As for Chicago, their 24th place finish last season was dismal and they suffered an offseason of losses. While they did make a ton of profit, it’s yet to really be re-invested back into the club and with injury questions already mounting, they’re not exactly in the best spot. They have also only played one game up to this point and could well be rusty.

Philadelphia Union vs Chicago Fire prediction

Jim Curtin will be rolling out his usual XI in Philadelphia this evening, which should result in another dominant affair providing all goes well. I’m backing the Union to win this comfortably as they pick up steam for their CCL clash in a few days time.
