The Philadelphia Union are on the road for the first time this season as they look to continue their strong start to the season. Facing them will be an Inter Miami side who have also started strongly, beating Montreal CF 2-0 at home.

Philadelphia Union vs Inter Miami team history

These two teams have clashed six times so far, with the Union holding a 3-2-1 record over Inter Miami. Last time out saw the Union beat Inter Miami on the road 2-1, which is also their record in games played at DRV PNK Stadium, with the boys in blue going into this one undefeated against Miami on the road.

Philadelphia Union vs Inter Miami game preview

If the opening game of the season was anything to go by, the U mean business once again. A 4-1 demolition job of the Columbus Crew saw Daniel Gazdag pick up where he left off last year, scoring two penalties and assisting the other two goals of the game.

Phil Neville’s men also started the season well, which was huge given their very difficult offseason. Gonzalo Higuain retired and they said an early goodbye to Alejandro Pozuelo. Miami did bring in prolific MLS striker, Josef Martinez, although he didn’t score in the season-opener and the Union will be looking to keep things that way.

The two teams had contrasting offseasons. Philly still has the same starting XI that dominated the Eastern Conference last year (somehow) and that’s bad news for anyone that stands in their way.

The wildcard here is that the Union have a CONCACAF Champions League fixture on Tuesday, on the road, against Allianza FC. Jim Curtin may decide to prioritize this fixture, or at least be a little more aggressive with substitutions in order to keep his starters as fresh as possible.

With that said, having a breakout from Joaquín Torres in week 1 might give Curtin the confidence to rotate early. The new signing made his mark very quickly against Columbus. While it was Julian Carranza that netted the brace, Torres played a crucial role in the goal that put the nail in the coffin.

Philadelphia Union vs Inter Miami prediction

When all is said and done, Philly has too much squad depth for Miami to hang with. It may take some time for Miami to properly click as a cohesive unit, and the Union are already lightyears ahead in that department. I wouldn’t expect a blowout like last week, especially with the CONCACAF game looming, but this should be a Union win.
