Stability is an important factor in the NFL. The longer coaches are with players, the more familiar they become with what a player likes and how to get the best out of them. For the Philadelphia Eagles, the clearest evidence of that is their franchise quarterback’s growth in year three with the team.

Jalen Hurts began the season telling reporters how excited he was to have the same offensive staff for the second straight season – something he did not have since high school.

It seems he’s closer to getting that for a third straight season.

Panthers hire former Eagles HC Frank Reich

The Carolina Panthers have announced the hiring of Frank Reich as their head coach, closing the door on many fine applicants: one of them being Shane Steichen.

Steichen not receiving the Panthers coaching gig means there are just four more available head coaching positions available. With DeMeco Ryans the favorite in Denver, Jonathan Gannon the favorite in Houston, Jeff Saturday in Indianapolis, the last remaining foreseeable team that could poach Steichen is Arizona.

The Cardinals have been in limbo with Sean Payton over the last few weeks and have second interviews planned with Brian Flores and Dan Quinn in the near future.

Shane Steichen may stay with the Eagles

While Steichen doesn’t seem like a top player for the coaching gig in Arizona, the longer the process goes on, the easier it will be to see him leave. The quicker this goes by though with coaching gigs being filled leaves the Eagles with a very likely scenario where they return their offensive coaching staff for the third straight season.

And you only need to see Hurts’ third-year jump to understand how important that would be to the team as a whole.
