Dominated by the Boston Bruins yesterday, the Philadelphia Flyers will have to shift gears quickly, hosting the Anaheim Ducks tonight. Both teams faced off recently on January 2nd, 2023, when the Flyers defeated the Ducks 4-1 to finish their California road trip sweep.

“How we answer tomorrow night, that’s what we’re looking at. That’s all I’m thinking about right now.”

John Tortorella; 1/16/2023

Controlling the pace, the Flyers never trailed the Ducks. Four Philadelphia forwards (Noah Cates, Joel Farabee, Travis Konecny, and Kevin Hayes) had a multi-point evening.

Anaheim Ducks (12-27-5)

Fresh off of a loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Ducks travel to Eastern Pennsylvania to battle the Flyers.

Since losing 4-1 on January 2nd, 2023, the Ducks are 2-3-1. They’re last in the Pacific Division and 30th in the NHL.

Trevor Zegras (14G, 20A) notched two points (1G, 1A) last night and recorded an assist against the Flyers the other week. Zegras, 21, is an exciting talent and one of the most fun players to watch in the entire NHL. Playing in a top-six role, he continues to make leaps in a Ducks season that has been lost from the get-go.

Anthony Stolarz (3-5-0, 3.88GAA, 89.3%SV) will likely start since John Gibson served between the pipes last night. Stolarz, a New Jersey native, was drafted 45th overall by the Flyers in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He went 6-4-4 before Philadelphia traded him for Cam Talbot.

Here’s the tentative lineup for the Ducks, per Matt Weller:

Henrique-McTavish-Terry
Comtois-Zegras-Strome
Vatrano-Carrick-Silfverberg
Jones-Megna-Leason

Fowler-Kulikov
Benoit-Klingberg
Vaakanainen-Shattenkirk

Philadelphia Flyers (18-19-7)

Samuel Ersson (4-0-0, 2.3GAA, 92.4%SV) will start. He nearly shut out the Ducks in his last start against them, making 28 saves before Ryan Strome spoiled the bid. Ersson made an appearance yesterday, relieving Carter Hart. He made eleven saves on thirteen shots from the Bruins.

Konecny (24G, 22A) and Farabee (9G, 16A) tallied two points with Hayes and Cates during the 4-1 victory in Anaheim. Farabee picked up his game in the new year with four points (1G, 3A) in the last five games. Konecny, despite the last two games, frequents the scoring sheet. He’s looking for a reunion with the scoreboard tonight at the Wells Fargo Center.

Here’s the tentative lineup for the Flyers:

van Riemsdyk-Frost-Tippett
Farabee-Cates, N-Konecny
Hayes-Laughton-Allison
Deslauriers-Brown-MacEwen

Provorov-York
Sanheim-DeAngelo
Seeler-Ristolainen
