NFL MVP Odds: How does Jalen Hurts fare after week 15?
The Philadelphia Eagles might have been slow out of the gate against Chicago, but they were able to escape the Windy City and windier conditions with that all-important victory. Jalen Hurts was far from perfect on the day, going 22/37 for 315 yards, 0 TD and 2 INT, but he added a hat-trick of rushing touchdowns to help make up for his early mistakes. How did this game impact his position in the MVP race?

We’re now closing in on the final few hurdles of this exciting season and there is a new king at the top of the Totem pole. Jalen Hurts previously sat unchallenged at the top of the odds list for the second week in a row, until news broke that the Eagles QB suffered a shoulder sprain.
His status for Saturday is now up in the air and the franchise should absolutely act on the side of caution. Doing so would mean that Gardner Minshew starts against the Cowboys, but with a spot in the playoffs already secured, there’s no need for the Eagles to be aggressive.
The downside is that Hurts has now slipped to 3rd in the MVP race. Had he not sustained the injury, he would’ve comfortably remained at the top of the totem pole, helped in part by Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs struggling to see off the resurgent Houston Texans. If there was ever a week for Hurts to suffer a setback, it was this one.
In all fairness, outside of a couple of picks, Hurts played pretty solidly. It’s not his fault that his offensive coordinator decided to roll out a pass-heavy gameplan…in the freezing Chicago tundra…against a horrible run defense. Hurts was still able to spread the ball around in a variety of ways and ultimately lead his team to victory.
At this point in the season though, it would be hard to make a case for anyone not named Jalen Hurts, but now he’s going to have to fight back from a game on the sidelines. The award isn’t for the best quarterback, it’s for the most valuable player. Hurts has been incremental to the Eagles’ stunning 2022 season, but if his numbers are unable to rival the likes of Mahomes and Burrow, the tide may be turning,
Jalen Hurts has been nothing short of outstanding this year in every category. As a passer, as a rusher, and as the centrifugal force in this offense. It doesn’t matter how you slice it, Jalen Hurts has been the league’s most valuable player at this point of the season. If the Eagles begin to falter, or the Chiefs rally on to decimate their upcoming opponents, then that may change. This weekend showed what happens when the Chiefs stumble. The Eagles have overcome every challenge bestowed upon them, thanks in large part to the rapid growth of Jalen Hurts.
