NFL MVP Odds: How does Jalen Hurts fare after week 14?
The Philadelphia Eagles stormed past the New York Giants on Sunday. For the second week in a row, Jalen Hurts played so well that he was pulled out of the game by the fourth quarter. Another 3 total touchdowns in a 48 point rout of their division rivals saw Hurts showcase his new-found touch on deep passes, while adding close to another 300 scrimmage yards. But how do his heroics impact his standing in the MVP race?

For the first time this year we also have a non-QB sneaking into the top 8. Justin Jefferson is a longshot to win the award and will be even more so after the Lions were able to silence Kirk Cousins and company, but it’s a testament to the season he’s having. For context, he does lead the NFL in receiving yards, but A.J Brown is only 400 yards behind, has 4 more touchdowns, and is working alongside DeVonta Smith who has 775 receiving yards. The next-best Vikes receiver is Adam Thielen…with 645. But then you have to factor in Dallas Goedert was among the top tight ends before bowing out to an injury, while T.J Hockenson only has a few hundred yards to his name. If that doesn’t speak to the arm-talent of Jalen Hurts, I don’t know what will.
At this point in the season though, it would be hard to make a case for anyone not named Jalen Hurts. The award isn’t for the best quarterback, it’s for the most valuable player. Hurts has been incremental to the Eagles’ stunning 2022 season and while you can make the argument that their schedule has been light, getting past the Giants and Titans in such a convincing fashion in back-to-back weeks is one way to silence the critics.
Jalen Hurts has been nothing short of outstanding this year in every category. As a passer, as a rusher, and as the centrifugal force in this offense. It doesn’t matter how you slice it, Jalen Hurts has been the league’s most valuable player at this point of the season. If the Eagles begin to falter, or the Chiefs rally on to decimate their upcoming opponents, then that may change. This weekend showed what happens when the Chiefs stumble. The Eagles have overcome every challenge bestowed upon them, thanks in large part to the rapid growth of Jalen Hurts.
