Patriots vs Cardinals promises to be a thriller

2022 has not gone to plan for both the Arizona Cardinals and the New England Patriots. The Pats are now 6-6 and trying to keep a playoff push alive after dropping games to the Vikings and Bills, while the Cardinals are scrapping to get to a .500 record. This battle in the desert is going to be an important one for the Pats in particular. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming Monday Night matchup.

Patriots vs Cardinals betting preview

The Patriots will come into this game knowing that a win is not only attainable but necessary. Their offensive limitations hurt them last time out, especially on third down where they converted less than 25% of their attempts. The Cardinals just so happen to be 8th in the NFL in time of possession. Although this could be largely because Kyler Murray has had to turn into a more clinical and short-sighted passer due to a lack of weapons throughout the season, the fact remains that if the Patriots can’t sustain offensive drives, they may not have that many to work with. The Cards are averaging 31 minutes of possession over their last 3 games, ranking 5th in the NFL.

Speaking of Kyler Murray, he ranks 5th among all NFL QB’s in pass completions per game over the last 3 weeks. With DeAndre Hopkins taking center stage, Murray has started to strategically pick apart whichever defense is in front of him. The bad news is that this Pats defense is a top-10 unit and features a hungry Matthew Judon, who has gone without a sack in each of his last two games, but still has 13.5 on the season. If the Pats have any hope of winning this game, they have to contain Murray and keep him in the pocket.

New England will also be having to handle a flurry of injuries. Top pass-catcher, Jakobi Meyers, joins starting right tackle Isaiah Wynn, and rotational back Damien Harris. Sprinkle in the fact that CB Jalen Mills is out which should lend itself nicely to DeAndre Hopkins, and all of a sudden the blueprint is there for a Cardinals win.

Patriots vs Cardinals Betting pick

The Cardinals don’t have anything on the line here, but a win could be a nice launchpad to a strong finish. If a now-injury-riddled Pats offense struggles to move the chains, and the Cardinals can dominate the time of possession, then this should be a Cardinals win. I’ll be taking the Cardinals +1.5 and also backing James Conner to rush for more than 60 yards at +188. The Pats defense is very good against the run, but if the script for the Cardinals is to play keepaway, there’s no reason they won’t pound the rock here.

Pick: Cardinals +1.5
