Giants vs Eagles promises to be a thriller

The NFC east has become a free-for-all. The Philadelphia Eagles are now 11-1 and the New York Giants are only a few wins back with a 7-4 record, vying for a playoff push of their own. With debates about ’strength of schedule’ ravaging through the division, beating divisional opponents in convincing fashion is not only a way to establish pedigree, but to gain significant ground in the hunt for a postseason berth. The first of two games between these teams in 2022 will undoubtedly see some fireworks as a result.

Giants vs Eagles betting preview

The Philadelphia Eagles are 5-0 on the road this season and a win or a tie here will see them officially clinch a spot in the 2022 NFL playoffs. The New York Giants meanwhile know that a win here would close the gap down to the current leaders in the NFC East down to 3 wins. With one more game against them to come, the Giants are by no means out of this playoff race, but beating Philadelphia is not exactly an easy feat.

Their hopes will lie with Saquon Barkley. An explosive start to the season has cooled off somewhat. He has 124 yards combined over his last 3 games, averaging a measly 2.81 yards per carry. The wheels started to wobble during the Thanksgiving game and Barkley just hasn’t been able to rekindle the fire since. This is bad news when you consider that the Eagles have been able to thwart some of the very best backs in the NFL over that same span.

Derrick Henry? 2.7 yards per carry, 30 total yards.
Aaron Jones? 3.6 yards per carry, 43 total yards.
Jonathan Taylor? 3.8 yards per carry, 84 total yards.

As for the quarterback duel, there is only one winner on paper. Jalen Hurts is an MVP candidate in every sense of the word. He’s thrown 16 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions over his last 8 games, and that’s without mentioning his 400 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns in that span. He’s not only been everything Eagles fans dreamed he could be, but at this point, he’s what any NFL team would dream their quarterback could be.

Given that the Giants are allowing an opposing QBR of 88 per game, and 93 over their last 3 games, this defense is ripe for picking. Jalen Hurts should have no qualms about ripping through the seams of the Giants secondary, and to make matters worse, they’re allowing 141 rushing yards per game. That’s not great considering the Eagles have the league’s 5th best rushing offense and a quarterback who can sting any off-ball linebacker not willing to pay him the respect he deserves on read-option looks.

Giants vs Eagles pick

The Eagles have been borderline unstoppable this season, but their win against the Titans answered a lot of questions. Can they win if Jalen Hurts is made to pass for the majority of the game? He dominated. Can they stop the most dominant running backs in the NFL? The answer is yes. I don’t see an avenue for the Giants to keep this game close, so this is the pick for me in Giants vs Eagles.

Pick: Eagles -6.5
