Japan vs SPain

We’re getting into crunch time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage and we could have another upset on the cards. Canada’s spirited effort against Croatia didn’t go unnoticed, but Morocco’s shocking 2-0 over Belgium stole the spotlight. Canada is, unfortunately, heading home after this game, but that same fate may not apply to Morocco.

Japan vs Spain betting preview

Japan’s World Cup campaign up to this point has been very impressive. They sit second in their group and unless Costa Rica can get a win/draw against Germany, they should be able to get through to the knockout stages. They defeated Germany in their opening game, but were unable to hold off Costa Rica in their second game, as a late goal from Keysher Fuller kept the Costa Rican World Cup dream alive.

As for Spain, they’re undefeated through two games but will have been disappointed to drop points against a German side that has struggled so far. It will be interesting to see if La Roja decides to give Alvaro Morata the start here. He’s come off the bench in each game so far and has scored in both. Perhaps they like that ‘ace up the sleeve’, but even if they do, he’s earned the start and it would give Marco Asensio a rest before the knockout stage.

Spain destroyed Costa Rica and a slightly underwhelming fixture against Germany will likely have them wanting to rebound before things get serious. We can follow the England model here. The Three Lions ripped through Iran before being held goalless by the USMNT. They then thumped Wales in their final group game. There’s no reason why a Spain side this talented can’t replicate that.

Japan vs Spain betting pick

As much as Japan needs this win, Spain has too much talent to go into the knockout stage with a lack of momentum. A win here will build confidence, although I don’t think it comes easy. I’ll be backing ‘Both Teams to Score’ at +105.
