Belmont Stakes preview

Rich Strike is the name who draws most intrigue here after shocking the racing world with a win at America’s biggest race, the Kentucky Derby. The 81/1 longshot was ridden emphatically by Sandy Leon, but the prospect of a Triple Crown was quickly thwarted.

Rich Strike didn’t participate in the Preakness as the trainers felt that the race was too close to the Derby for the horse to be competitive. Instead, going for the double made more sense.

Creative Minister did run in the Preakness, finishing 2nd as a 10/1 runner. The horse comes into this weekend’s race at a shortened 6/1 as a result. Skippylongstocking finished last in this race and is once again a 20/1 longshot here.

Then, there’s We The People. The 2/1 favorite, he’s won the Belmont’s Peter Pan Stakes and is a winner of three in his last four races. His form is red hot and he’s clearly got the speed and stamina to last all 12 furlongs.
