A Look Back at MLS: Highlighting Week Nine of 2022

Week nine of MLS is in the books. It was a thrilling week with plenty of winners and losers, and not too many drawn contests. The marque matchup saw east leading Philadelphia Union go to Nashville SC which was opening their brand new stadium. Here’s a look back at all the action that went down in week nine of 2022.

Week Nine of 2022

We’re really getting to see which teams have what it takes to have a successful year now through week nine of the 2022 campaign. LAFC and Philadelphia are atop their respective standings, but there are other teams rising that were irrelevant last year. Will the top two teams in the east and the west stay there as the season continues, or will some of those teams emerging through almost the first third of the season have something to say about who is on top?

Houston vs Austin

Toronto vs Cincinnati

Salt Lake vs Los Angeles

Montreal vs Atlanta

Columbus vs DC

New England vs Miami

Orlando vs Charlotte

Chicago vs New York

Kansas City vs Dallas

Colorado vs Portland

NYCFC vs San Jose

Nashville vs Philadelphia

LAFC vs Minnesota

Standings after Week Nine

Week 10 Starts Now

Week 10 actually kicked off with one midweek game; Cincinnati and Toronto met again and Cincy got another W. Both of these teams, along with the rest of the league play this coming weekend! Here’s a look at the matches in week 10.

Wednesday, May 4

  • Cincinnati vs Toronto (Cincinnati took home a 2-0 win)

Saturday, May 7

  • Charlotte vs Miami
  • Montreal vs Orlando
  • Atlanta vs Chicago
  • NYCFC vs Kansas City
  • New York vs Portland
  • DC vs Houston
  • New England vs Columbus
  • Minnesota vs Cincinnati
  • Dallas vs Seattle
  • San Jose vs Colorado
  • LAFC vs Philadelphia

Sunday, May 8

  • Vancouver vs Toronto
  • Nashville vs Salt Lake
  • Austin vs Los Angeles

There are some great matchups in week 10, including what could be a possible MLS Cup Final preview between west leaders LAFC and the team atop of the east Philadelphia Union. That should be a great matchup and one that’s “MLS after-dark” as it kicks off at 11 pm. The main matchup Sunday is the surprise of the season so far Austin taking on LA Galaxy; can Austin stay in striking distance of LAFC in the west?

We’ll have to wait to find out what’s in store for week 10, but it’s quite clear we are beginning to see who is legit, who is not, and who is stuck somewhere in between. Are we in store for any surprising results this week? Be sure to catch the action on ESPN+, and FS1 all weekend.
