There have been standout performances for multiple members of the Delaware Blue Coats this season, and Shaquille Harrison was recently recognized for his impressive play this season. The 6’4 guard was named the G-League Defensive Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season. Harrison is the second Blue Coat to win this award in the past three seasons, as Christ Koumadje won the award following the 2019-20 season.
It has been an impressive overall season for Shaq Harrison as he averaged 12.7 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.6 rebounds on the year. He also ranked 7th in the G-League in steals with 1.93 per game and tallied 17 blocks in 27 games. Harrison impressed in his preseason minutes with the Sixers after signing a training camp deal leading up to the season but was unable to crack the roster this year.
The Tulsa product was undrafted in 2016 and has played in a total of 175 games in the NBA since this time. Harrison signed two 10-day deals with the Brooklyn Nets this season and one 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies during this season.
Former Blue Coats forward Braxton Key was also recognized for his impressive defense as he was top 3 in DPOY voting. Led by Harrison and Key, the Blue Coats led the G-League in steals (11.8 per game), blocks (7.0 per game), and forced turnovers (20.4 per game).
