The Masters is almost upon us and for Sports Bettors, it’s an exciting time. How do you go about betting the most prestigious golf tournament on the planet? Do you go all-in on the favorites or try to find some bargains? We’re going to bring you five of the best bargain bin buys ahead of next week’s tournament.
Finding value at the Masters
Will Zalatoris (+3500)
Zalatoris has rapidly become one of my favorite golfers. He’s a great striker of the ball with his irons (is DataGolf’s 4th ranked) and his near-miracle finish at Augusta one year ago is a fond memory for many. However, he’s still looking for that first win and the one reason to be wary here is the putting.
Zalatoris let his first PGA win slip away earlier this year and if he’s in that same spot again next weekend the pressure will be tenfold. However, he does have a string of good results coming into Augusta and it’s a course he’s been able to spring a surprise at before in his debut. Can he go all the way this year? It’s worth a punt at +3500.
Matt Fitzpatrick (+5000)
The Brit now ranks 19th in strokes gained on approach and he’s been much more consistent in tournament play this year, finishing inside the top-10 on five occasions so far. He actually leads the field in strokes gained against the field.
Fitz probably isn’t the go-to Brit here, that would be Tommy Fleetwood. But that only adds to his value.
Tiger Woods (+4000)
This one goes without saying. Is 40/1 valuable for a golfer who hasn’t played a PGA round in close to two years? No. If this was anyone else, the odds would be astronmical. But there’s something magical about Tiger at Augusta and bettors are always going to hammer the line down. I don’t think this is subjectively good value at all, but if you want to bet on Tiger’s fairytale, now’s the time to do it as opposed to next Wednesday when he could be a lot more expensive.
Brian Harman +15000
Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the deepest value of them all? Enter Brian Harman. If you want someone who’s a longshot that actually has a chance of bringing you a sizable return, Harman is your man.
Every Masters champion since 2013 has finished inside the top-25 in each of their last 5 starts. Harman came 12th last year and his last entry was in 2018 where he came 44th.
However, he ranks 23rd in putting within 10 feet (per sportsline) and was third in strokes gained in his 5th place finish at Valspar.
He’s not the most attractive option, but we’re not looking for super models in this range…just a moonshot.
Corey Conners +5500
Hear me out.
Conners has been red hot over the past two months. He’s had four top-25’s since February and has two top-10’s at the Masters. The one thing you want in this tournament more than any other, is someone who’s been there and done it. Conners ticks that box and isn’t going to cost you an arm and a leg.
Around the green is what hurts Conners, as he ranks slap bang in the middle of the field in most metrics. But if he can put it all together for one round, who knows?
