Ranking the top 5 Eagles uniforms of all time

The Eagles dropped a game-changing announcement last night. Kelly Green jerseys are on their way back and will return in 2023. That got me thinking, what are the nicest uniforms of all time?

Missing the cut

White jerseys and green pants…

This combo weirdly gives me the ick and I can’t really explain why. Something about it just reminds me of a pair of pyjamas, or that kid at school who forgot he had sports on a Friday and had to borrow whatever the school had. You have corresponding pants to go with the jerseys, it’s not that hard to wear them.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. ‘BuT wHaT aBoUt ThE HoMe UnIfOrM?’ Good point.

But white and black are great colors for pants. It’s hard to mess up an outfit when wearing white or black on the bottom because they’re neutral. Try wearing a green pair of trousers and coordinating an outfit without having a mild crisis.

Philadelphia City colors…

I am sad to say the classic blue and yellow combo doesn’t make the cut. It’s not that the colors were bad per se, it’s just that outside of 1934, the jersey was only ever worn once…in 2007…and went down like a cup of cold sick.

The sentiment of the jersey itself is actually really cool and I love the colors. I’m a Renault F1 team fan (now Alpine) so it’s hard not to fall head over heels for it. However, for the better part of a century, the Eagles have worn variations of green white and black. A blue and yellow jersey being brought back in 2007 by the Eagles looked so out of place and was just confusing to a lot of younger fans who probably didn’t understand the heritage.

5: Midnight green jersey & pants

In 2002, the Eagles decided to go full color rush before it was a thing and dress up as power rangers. I’m a big fan of this. In kelly green it would’ve looked PHENOMENAL, but beggars can’t be choosers. It looks a bit weird looking back at images of it, but I could fully get behind bringing this look back.

4: Kelly green

This jersey is held in such high regard by half of the fanbase and oddly detested by the other. Very few are impartial when it comes to this colorway and I think it has a lot to do with the history of the jersey.

A young fan being able to honor players like Reggie White and look good doing it = dub.
An older fan seeing that jersey and being reminded of how bad the team was for a large duration of the time that jersey was in circulation = Anger.

I’m English. The iconic red England soccer shirt with the logo on the top right will forever be beautiful to me because of what it represents. The Kelly green jersey has that same kind of effect, only the color is a lot more obnoxious and will either be seen as an ode to the greats or a terrible fashion statement.

However, if any players can make the color look good, I’m banking on Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith. A kelly green #2 just is a saucy addition to any jersey collection and would look brilliant on most football fits.

3: White jersey & white pants

The whiteout combo is a saucy one. I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s the white undershirts and thermal sleeves looking that extra bit spicy thanks to a compliment of a correspondingly colored jersey (that was a mouthful). Wideouts and corners look especially drippy in all white.

Can you make the argument that they also look like a 90’s boyband outfit? Sure. But I want it that way.

2: Traditional Eagles home uniform

It’s boring but it does the job. The traditional midnight green jersey with white pants is a home-run hit. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This combo looks so good on the field and there’s a beauty in its simplicity. I do prefer the older reebok style jerseys that had a shine to them, and if they were still being designed that way, they’d be #1. But the new ones aren’t that bad if we’re being honest.

1: Eagles Blackout

I don’t know why, but the blackout jerseys just look so damn cool. This probably would’ve been ranked second had it not been for yesterday’s announcements that black helmets were also on the way. HELLO BATMAN.

It’s said that wearing black exudes confidence. Maybe that’s the reason that these all-black uniforms are just so damn sexy. The Eagles are one of the few teams that have struggled to do anything remotely entertaining due to the previous rules on alternate helmets. They made the best of a bad situation with these, giving off black ranger energy. Go Go Jalen Hurts…or something like that.
