How the James Harden Trade Affects the Sixers’ Title Odds

It finally happened; Ben Simmons is no longer a member of the Sixers as James Harden comes to Philadelphia at long last. The team will be putting Simmons in the past and focusing on the season at hand as they make a push to win the NBA Finals. Pairing former MVP James Harden with current MVP favorite (+220) Joel Embiid will go a long way towards Philadelphia’s goal of bringing a championship to the city.

What impact, though, does the addition of James Harden have on the Sixers’ chances at a title? What do the odds say?

Before a James Harden trade, the Philadelphia 76ers were +1400 to win it all this season. Since the deal alone, the Sixers have shot up all the way to +700 odds, a huge spike but expect this number to continue rising even further as the season goes on.

Once James Harden suits up for the Sixers, whether he establishes himself as the Harden of last season or if he is about what he’s been this season, the improved play of Harden over the Sixers’ current roster will put a vastly better product on the court. It won’t take long after James Harden joins his new teammates on the court for the oddsmakers to realize just how close this 76ers team may be to an NBA championship.

As of this moment, +700 seems like a steal as, again, the odds seem to only be moving in favor of a Philadelphia 76ers’ championship. A successful $10 bet would currently net you $70 in return.
