As the Sixers won their seventh straight game, the story of the night was all about Joel Embiid, who once again put the team on his back. While it was consecutive win number seven, it was the ninth consecutive road game for Joel Embiid, scoring 30+ points. That officially gives him the franchise record for most consecutive road games with 30 or more points passing Sixers’ legend Allen Iverson.

Joel Embiid had already surpassed Wilt Chamberlain’s record with the Sixers and was tied with Iverson heading into the night but of course, against a struggling Rockets team, Embiid was able to feast and claim the record for his own.

Player of the Game

Joel Embiid

Who else would it be? Joel Embiid has proved time and time again that he is this franchise; they rise and fall with him. With 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in only 26 minutes, Embiid continues to put up MVP level numbers in a season that has been anything but easy.

He completely dominated every player the Rockets threw his way. Embiid was absolutely in his comfort zone, working between the midrange and the post and racking up the free throws, 13 in total by night’s end.

To recap Embiid’s hot streak, tonight marks his ninth consecutive road game scoring 30+ points and seventh consecutive game in general scoring 30+. This is coming off of Embiid being named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for December.

Joel Embiid has improved each and every month since the season started. There is no doubt as the year goes on that he will find himself more and more at the forefront of the MVP conversation. This is especially the case if the Sixers continue to rise up the Eastern Conference rankings.

Quick Notes

  • The Point-Korkmaz experiment continues to work as Furkan contributed 12 points and 6 rebounds on some much-needed efficient shooting. It’s great to see Turkish Delight

  • Andre Drummond continues to prove to be an excellent backup to Joel Embiid as, much like the Sixers’ star, Drummond dominated the competition in the post to the tune of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

  • Charles Brown Jr. continues to impress for the Sixers with a tough competitive nature and athleticism. He may not be providing much on the offensive side currently, but his impact is clear and a much-needed breath of fresh air.

Up Next

The Sixers will return to Philadelphia to face off against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night. First and foremost, the Sixers will be going for their eighth consecutive win, but you have to believe Joel Embiid will have one other accomplishment on his mind.

So far, Embiid has scored 30 or more points in seven consecutive games. With one more, he could tie both Wilt Chamberlin and Allen Iverson for the most consecutive game with 30 or more points scored (8).

The Hornets, meanwhile, are coming off of back-to-back wins against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. They certainly won’t just rollover. Tip-off is at 7:00 PM EST, and you can watch the game live on NBC Sports Philadelphia or listen live at 97.5 FM The Fanatic.
