The Eagles have officially cut ties with TE Zach Ertz as he’s been traded to the Arizona Cardinals for a 2022 5th round pick and rookie CB Tay Gowan. Zach Ertz caps off an illustrious career with the Philadelphia Eagles. A destined Hall of Famer who helped lead this franchise to its first ever Super Bowl title.
Ertz spent his entire career up to this point wearing the midnight green for the city of Philadelphia while racking up 6,267 receiving yards and 38 touchdowns. He’ll now be heading to a team that’s on the cusp of their very own Super Bowl title run with a Quarterback that’s making his case for MVP.
Eagles fans will remember Zach Ertz for his diving touchdown play against the Patriots that helped seal their first Super Bowl win, His leaping catch against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday football, and his record-setting season of 116 receptions in 2018. Ertz not only impacted the team on the field but also off the field by going above and beyond for the community.
In return, the Philadelphia Eagles will acquire Tay Gowan, a rookie out of UCF who was drafted in the 6th round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Gowan could be a bit of a developmental cornerback as he has yet to do much on the field this season. He opted out of the 2020 season due to covid but before then he started 9 out of 12 games for the University of Central Florida. He recorded 31 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 8 pass breakups.
While Zach Ertz will be greatly missed, the Eagles are doing what’s best for Ertz and this franchise. Acquiring more young talent and draft capital while handing the reigns over to Dallas Goedert.
