As the Ben Simmons trade saga continues, the Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly interested in acquiring the Sixers disgruntled star.

Add the Cleveland Cavaliers to the increasing list of teams reportedly interested in acquiring DPOY Runner-up Ben Simmons. Simmons’ name has been mentioned with teams such as the Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Sacramento Kings.

Within the last few days, reports have begun to surface about the Cavs interest in Ben Simmons. The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor mentioned during one of his podcasts that he has heard that the Cavs “are a team to watch out for” in regards to Ben Simmons. Veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein also reported that Cleveland “continues to keep its hat in the ring” when it comes to Ben Simmons talks.

Although the Cavs aren’t one of the California teams Simmons would like to be traded to, it could be an intriguing landing spot. If Simmons was traded to Cleveland, he would immediately be the best player on a team that would have some versatility to build around him. Evan Mobley and newly acquired Lauri Markkanen could be good fits around Simmons due to their ability to stretch the floor. Simmons may also welcome a trade to Cleveland to play with his friend and Klutch Sports teammate Darius Garland.

If the Sixers traded Simmons to Cleveland, it would have to be a package that could help the Sixers be competitive now and maybe some future assets as well. Reports were coming out of Cleveland that they were looking to trade guard Collin Sexton, but no trade materialized.

Likely, the Sixers would prefer a package around guard Darius Garland but may consider a trade packaged around Sexton if the return was legitimate. A trade involving Sexton, Ricky Rubio, Issac Okoro, and future draft assets could get Daryl Morey to pick up the phone.

Another deal that may interest the Sixers could be a package centered around Sexton and Lauri Markkanen once he is eligible to be traded on October 27th.

With teams continuing to “lowball” the Sixers with underwhelming offers, the Cavs could step in and get Simmons if they present the right offer. Talks may be slow, but they are bound to heat up as we get closer to training camp.
