Elite D.C. basketball prospect Jared Turner talks Saint Josephs, Penn State, and more

NCAA BASKETBALL: MAR 14 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship – St Josephs v Dayton
14 MAR 2013: Saint Joseph’s Hawks Mascot during the first half of the game between the Saint Joseph’s Hawks and the Dayton Flyers played at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn,NY. The Saint Joseph’s Hawks defeated the Dayton Flyers 70-67.

2022 four-star small forward Jared Turner is a big-time target for Saint Josephs basketball. He is a slasher who knows how to score and has a smooth jump shot. He is ranked third in D.C., 46th among small forwards, and 200 among prospects for the 2022 basketball class. I talked with him about his recruitment, and more, for Philly Sports Network.

LJ: What do you feel are the strengths of your game? What do teams like about you?

Jared: Definitely my Shooting ability and my high IQ. I see the floor very well and make great decisions on the court. Teams love this combined with my length and height.

LJ: What game last year did you feel you played your best? What were the stats in that game?

Jared: I played best in the last game I played In before I got hurt against the Heights School. I had 14 points and a few rebounds and assists.

LJ: What teams are recruiting you the best so far?

Jared: The schools that contact me the most as of late have been St.Joe’s, George Washington, Western Michigan, Elon, Yale, Wake Forest, and Vanderbilt.

LJ: How do you feel about Saint Josephs?

Jared: I think the program is on the cusp of being something very special! Coach Lange is an awesome basketball mind and coach as well as being a great all-around person. Very excited to build upon my relationship with them more.

LJ: How often do they stay in contact with you?

Jared: I would say I talk to them a few times a week.

LJ: Are you highly interested in saint Joseph? Why?

Jared: I’m pretty interested in their program! They run an offense that suits my style of play very well so I could definitely see myself being a good fit over there. They also landed a commitment from someone who I workout with occasionally and who is in my AAU program in ‘21 Guard Erik Reynolds.

Leader: How do you feel about the Penn State offer? What have they told you? how long have they been recruiting you?

Jared: I feel great about it honestly. It showed me the hard work I’m putting in is paying off. They contacted me over the summer in the early days when coaches could directly talk to us. They told me my skillset is very valuable to them and that I can really hoop so they need someone like me.
